"We stopped here after visiting Betancuria, because we were fascinated by the building. It is the hermitage of the Virgen de la Pena, which has a statue of the Virgin with her eyes closed (apparently because she couldn't bear to see a woman harm her son). There is a fascinating legend associated with this statue, telling of how the image was found by digging away at some stone, from where came bright lights and celestial music. It is a beautiful area here, in the valleys between the mountains, with dams and palm trees.
