La Latija - Playa, Beach
"La Latija is a small town, right on the edge of the big tourist resorts of Costa Calma in the south of Fuerteventura.
It has been so far over-looked by the developers, so has no huge hotels - probably due to its pebbly beach. However, we soon came to view pebbly beaches as a blessing on this windy island: far less danger of being sand-blasted by the relentless wind.
We had a great coffee at one of the friendly restaurants perched on the sea front here. Pretty fishing boats bobbed in the waves and cliffs rose to shelter the curving bay. Lovely.
La Latija is also well known for its zoo and botanical gardens at Oasis Park, just outside the town. This is a traditional zoo, with chimps, exotic birds, zebras, crocodiles, giraffes, antelopes etc. The botanical gardens are extensive and also serve as a plant retail centre. As you pass La Latija, you may see the camel safari rides departing from here. " NEXT ->
