Isla de Lobos - the coast
The Islote de Lobos rests just off the north coast of Fuerteventura. It is a volcanic island, with black lava-rock (Malpais) strewn around the flat plain and up the slopes of the Caldera. It used to be home to the now extinct sea-wolf, which gave the island its name. Much of the flora and bird life here is protected, due to its special and distinct conditions.
This is the perfect place to visit for a day. You can swim in the bays and coves, or even in the Caldera of the volcano, if you are prepared to walk that far. Alternatively, go for a quiet walk on the many marked paths. The signs tell you how long it will take to reach each place in minutes and warn you not to leave the trail - in fact they tell you "Do not let the trail" but hey! We know what they mean.
There are no cars here and the only electricity is provided by a generator. There is one rather basic restaurant, serving... fish. What else?
Otherwise, pack a picnic. NEXT ->
