Fuerteventura, Canary Islands : Hotel Rural - Era de la Corte, Antigua
This was our first time in a "Hotel Rural" so we weren't quite sure what to expect. We found a charming, welcoming, friendly guest house, perfectly situated in the very centre of the island - ideal for travelling all over Fuerteventura. Andreas (owner) was lovely - our minimal Spanish and their minimal English didn't stop him and his wife from chatting to us in detail about their family, (at least I think it was about the family). They served a fantastic breakfast of fruit, yogurt, ham, cheese, fresh bread, cakes and croissants, orange juice and fresh coffee - at any time we decided to get up. They do not serve other meals. "Hotel Rural Era de la Corte This was our first time in a "Hotel Rural" so we weren't quite sure what to expect. Hotel Rural Era de la Corte - More details We were also enthusiastically welcomed each day by the three large and loveable dogs who roam the premises (but who don't come into the guest area). If you're nervous of dogs, they are HUGE but very friendly. Our room was always beautifully clean to come home to. It was traditionally furnished with an ensuite (shower, no bath). There was a TV with one, fuzzy, snow-ridden English language station (CNN). Plenty of sockets, but no other facilities: I was glad I had taken my hair dryer. There were no tea and coffee making facilities and no mini fridge, so it was impossible to make your own food and drink in the evenings. When we were there (Easter) it was far too cold to sit outside in the evening and there were no seating areas inside, so staying in with a good book meant sitting on the bed. The local village had at least four bars, two of which served great tapas, pizzas, burgers etc. The locals were extremely friendly and the food and drink was cheap and delicious! However, this is not a place to wear your best frock. Jeans and a T shirt (plus 2 or 3 jumpers against the wind?) were more suitable. The village is a 10 - 15 minute walk up hill from the guest house, so take your walking shoes too. When we were there, we were the only guests most of the time and we certainly felt as if we were in the real "Fuerteventura". However, it would have been nice to be able to dress up to go out in the evening once or twice without a long walk or using the car. And we really missed not being able to pour ourselves a cool beer, or make a hot drink and relax on some comfy chairs in our room."
