Fuerteventura, Canary Islands : El Cotillo - Playa, Beach
The sand is soft and silvery, the sea is turquoise and its pretty much unspoiled - by man that is. The wind does a very good job of spoiling it. We took a picnic onto the beach here and soon realised why no-one else did. The sand isn't just under your feet: it is blown at break-neck speed into your eyes, mouth and every other crevice. A wind break is an essential. I tried out the water here - purely for the sake of research, of course. My verdict? Flipping freezing (Easter 2009). Do not be fooled by those two souls in the water.
