Fuerteventura, Canary Islands : Ajuy Ajui - Cliffs
You can just about see the cliff path, leading along the fantastic sculptured sandstone cliffs. The cooling lava of past volcanos has solidified and formed these golden cliffs. They are fascinating. The path leads further than we had time to explore, but it was very tempting to keep walking and forget the fact that we were supposed to be taking photos for this tour! The black volcanic beach, below, was largely deserted (on Easter Sunday 2009) apart from a few locals having a game of football and fishing under the cliff overhang. A group of mountain bikers came and went. We just had the sun, the sea and the wind to enjoy. And NO SAND BLOWING IN OUR FACES! Hooray! We soon came to love stoney and pebbly beaches on Fuerteventura for that very reason: not as pretty as sand, but a lot less painful! MORE... |
